As a long time foodie, I am really enjoying the new television trend sweeping the nation. Between Food Network, the Cooking Channel and several other programs on other networks, culinary television is becoming increasingly popular. Along these same lines, more and more baking shows are beginning to appear on networks. My personal favorite one of these is Cake Boss which shows on TLC. Cake Boss is centered around Carlos Bakery which is run by Buddy Valastro and his family in New Jersey. The dynamic interaction between the cast members is what makes this show stand out. They are a traditional Italian family who put one another and their heritage first, but not without a few loving shouting matches every week. Buddy's sisters, who help run the front of the store, are always in his business while the other bakers - their husbands - try to stay out of their path and do what they do best by creating magnificent cakes. The show focuses around special order cakes that are truly works of art. Whether they are making a birthday cake that is modeled after the Egyptian Sphinx or a cake for Nasdaq which is several feet tall, the team on Cake Boss always impresses. I try not to miss a week and thanks to my direct tv packages, I never do!
